(Scroll to the right to see the 180 degree view) Highway 191, just south of Moab, on the way towards Back of Behind. Visible (from left-to-right) is the Slickrock Trail area, Flat Pass, the La Sal mountains and Terry and Steve riding off into the distance. We opted to ride the 13 road miles to the trailhead of the Back of Behind ride. I'd done this once before, in a soaking drizzle, so a sunny December day looked great. We actually stripped off a couple layers while standing around in the Big Horn Lodge parking lot and pretty much didn't regret it. The road portion of the ride is basically 11-12 miles of gradual climbing followed by a steep, but short, final ascent to the southern end of the Moab rim. (Not sure if it should be called that officially, but the rim is a constant companion off to the right side of the road so...)
