Amasa Back

Potash Plant as seen from the rim of Amasa Back above the Colorado. This is the Potash Plant at the end of the Potash Road, not surprisingly. There are also train tracks that lead to this plant to carry away the finished potash.

I don't know a lot about potash although I think it is used in fertilizer, among other things. The most interesting thing to me about potash is the way it is mined. Potash exists in underground deposits. Water is pumped down into these deposits and the potash is washed out into holding ponds (some of these are visible in the picture). The water then evaporates leaving the potash behind.
