Lockhart Basin

Hope renewed! The road surface changed and we started descending over bumpy, polished river rocks. Must be a good sign. Sure enough--the Colorado river soon meandered our way and brought a course of green through the desert.

Must be the home stretch, right? Well, yes and no. From here the trail climbed over Hurrah Pass. Turning left instead of right leads to Jackson Hole and a view up to Amasa Back. A 100+ foot portage is the only other way out of Jackson Hole (besides floating the river perhaps). No thanks, right turn for us.
